Introducing MRI-safe pacemakers

Sonora News

Dental clinic leaves everyone smiling

We’re still smiling about our second annual dental clinic. That’s because many other folks are smiling too!

The clinic, held this spring, offered free dental care to 81 people. All were Medi-Cal participants who otherwise would have gone without the services.

Thanks to the area dentists and dental hygienists who donated their time, more than $25,000 worth of “smile maintenance” was provided. Special smiles go out to: Nancy Burton, RDH; Brainard Duncan, DDS; Elizabeth “Leisa” Foutz, RDH; Michael French, DDS; Nancy Gon-salves, RDH; Karen Kallas, RDH; Dwight Klump, DDS; Blong Ly, DDS; Wayne Mathe, DDS; Larry Moe, DDS; Laurie Morrison, RDH; Michael Morrison, DDS; Stacey Ormond, RDH; Jerusha Waelty, RDH; John Wanzo, DDS; and Linda Wearin, RDH.

There’s good news for residents of Calaveras County: Angels Camp Prompt Care is now open. That means convenient access to treatment for non-life-threatening illness and injuries is just down the road. The Prompt Care Clinic is located at 23 N. Main St. (the intersection of highways 4 and 49) in the Jumping Frog Plaza. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. The clinic offers walk-in care for health problems such as coughs, cuts that may require stitches, strains and broken bones. X-rays and lab services are also available for those with a doctor’s order.

Keep Prompt Care in mind when you need medical attention but your primary care doctor is not available. Call at 736-9130 to learn more.

There once was a time when no one with a pacemaker could have an MRI because of the damage the test could do to it. But that’s no longer the case.

A pacemaker that’s safe in a magnetic res-onance imaging (MRI) machine is now avail-able from Medtronic. And a Sonora Regional Medical Center patient recently became the frst person in the region to receive one. “We’ve been waiting a long time for this device,” says Eric Hemminger, MD, the heart specialist at Sierra Cardiology who performed the procedure.

The technology isn’t yet widely offered. But it makes MRI an option for those with pace-makers who might need the test.

Call Sierra Cardiology at 532-0511 to learn if it’s right for you.
